The Lau Provincial Council is requesting the government to provide more assistance in the assessing of shipping service routes to the islands.
Some members have raised their concerns that ships servicing the islands are only travelling in one direction.
They say in lower Southern Lau ships travel from Ono-i-lau, Vatoa, Ogea, Fulaga and Kabara and then back to Suva.
The council is concerned that people have to a comeback to Suva if they may want to travel to the other islands.
Principal Transport Planner Jeke Valentine says there are four government franchise routes to the Lau Group.
Valentine says they will talk to the shipping companies regarding this matter.
