Fiji’s Ambassador to the European Union and the Kingdom of Belgium, Ambassador Peceli Vocea who passed away in Brussels on the 26th of June at the age of 46 was laid to rest yesterday.
Present at the funeral service today were the President Ratu Epeli Nailatikau, Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama, cabinet ministers, representatives from the African Carribean Pacific Group, families and friends.
While presenting the eulogy, Permanent Secretary of Foreign Affairs, Amena Yauvoli expressed Fiji’s loss of strong advocate of not only Fiji’s interests but also of the Small Island Developing States in Brussels, the capital of the EU.
Head of the Mission of Tuvalu to the EU, Ambassador Tine Leuelu, said Vocea is remembered as a hardworking, committed and esteemed member of the ACP in Brussels, a strong advocate for issues affecting the Pacific region and Small Island Development States and a much loved leader in the Pacific Island community in Belgium.
Vocea was also a well-known sports enthusiast having represented Suva and QVSOB club in rugby.
He is survived by his wife, Vasiti and five children.
