10,000 litre water tanks have been installed at 120 different locations from Nadroga to Rakiraki to assist the people affected by the dry weather condition.
Divisional Commissioner West Manasa Tagicakibau says they have identified the places in Nadroga, Nadi, Lautoka, Ba, Tavua and Rakiraki where people have been affected and these are the places where the tanks have been installed.
Tagicakibau says the taskforce is currently assessing the situation on ground and they will be installing more water tanks as the dry weather condition is expected to prevail till February next year.
He says people who rely on wells and bore holes in the rural areas are the ones affected by the dry weather conditions.
He adds around 4 million litres of water has been carted to the main land and maritime areas as more than 50,000 people are affected by the prolonged dry weather condition in the Western Division.
Meanwhile, Macuata is the most affected by the current dry spell in the Northern division.
Divisional Commissioner Northern Jovesa Vocea says they have not had a severe impact of the current dry spell in Bua and Cakaudrove Province where as they are providing majority of water carting services in Macuata.
Vocea says almost 7500 people are affected by this current dry spell and so far they have carted close to 5.9 million liters of water in the Northern Division.
He says they have sent requests to Water Authority to supply them with some 10,000 litres water tanks which they will place mostly in Macuata.
Vocea says there were slight showers last week and he has requested people to try and fill their buckets and containers with rain water.
He adds that his office only carts water to areas that requests for their help.
