Minister for Lands and Mineral Resources Ashneel Sudhakar

Minister for Lands and Mineral Resources Ashneel Sudhakar says the land near the Suva Botanical Gardens that is being exchanged with the government of India has been idle for the past 100 years.

Sudhakar says the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Lands and Mineral Resources approached the Suva City Council in 2014 for the possibility of them surrendering the land near the Fiji Museum.

Sudhakar says the size of the land is 6,467 square metres from the portion of 53,494 square metres.

The land is valued at about $1.2 million.

He says Fiji is getting a land in the prime area of Delhi which is valued at $110 million.

SODELPA MP Ro Filipe Tuisawau raised the issue in parliament that the original landowners should be consulted first.

Sudhakar stresses that the land in question is state land.
