Labasa town

Labasa town is the first town in Fiji that is installing CCTV cameras in their town.

This project is an initiative by the Northern Duavata Crime Prevention Committee and they have successfully raised $85,000 in their Northern Duavata Crime Prevention Carnival last week.

The Chairperson of Duavata Carnival Satish Kumar says works have already started and 12 cameras have already been placed in the town area.

Kumar says this will be an ongoing project and will be completed in 3 years and plans include putting cameras as far as Tuatua, which is outside the town area.

He says the project will cost around $100,000.

Kumar says the cameras will help in reducing the crime rate in the Labasa town area.

Miss Savusavu Ilisapeci Mira was crowned Miss Duavata 2017.
