The Land Transport Authority says a significant increase in the number of Automatic Number Plate Recognition speed cameras will become active in all parts of Fiji by early next month.
LTA says the biggest single cause of fatalities is speeding, and if you are speeding, the chances of being caught will increase substantially from June.
The Authority says if you exceed the speed limit you will be issued with a Traffic Infringement Notice which must be paid in full within 90 days of the offence taking place. Payments after 90 days are subject to a 50% late payment fee which is added to the original fine.
The implications of not paying your fines in full are that all LTA transactions (wheel tax, roadworthiness, driving licence, vehicle sale and transfer) are blocked unless and until all fines are paid in full. If you wish to dispute the Traffic Infringement Notice, then you must first pay the fine in full and process your dispute through the Court system.
The LTA and its officials have no powers to waive, suppress, or expunge any TIN.
The Authority has also put into service a brand new customised overloading enforcement vehicle for remote, compliance and overloading enforcement operations.
