A report by the Land Transport Authority based on statistics on traffic infringement notices specifically issued for eticketing has shown a growing trend on the abuse on subsidised etransport cards.
While the issue may be under reported, the LTA report highlights that from December 2017 to February 2018 there were eight cases of people paying the bus fare of other people through their subsidised etransport cards.
These eight cases were reported in the Northern Division.
It also shows that in May alone last year, there were 10 similar cases. Nine of those were reported in the Northern Division while one was in the Western Division.
If you are using a subsidised etransport card of a student, senior citizen or a person living with disabilities and you don’t qualify for that concession, you are a liable for a fixed penalty or fine of $150.
According to the Land Transport Authority, if you fail to pay that fine of $150 within a certain period, you are liable upon conviction to a fine not exceeding $500.
