The Land Transport Authority will propose that speed limits be increased in some allocated roads in the Central/Eastern division later this year.
LTA spokesperson Iliesa Sokia said two months ago they implemented the trial after government directed them to review the current speed limit on four roads.
Sokia added that the roads identified where the speed limit needs to be increased include a portion of the Kings Road from Mead Road to Wainibuku Bridge, Fiji National University junction to Rewa Bridge, Jerusalem road and Ratu Dovi Road from the Centrepoint junction to Laqere market.
According to Sokia, the current speed limit on these roads is 50 kilometres however they will be proposing to increase it to 60 kilometres.
He said a speed limit trial is underway on these roads which will continue till December this year, where they will compile a report and submit it to the government for their final recommendation.
Sokia said LTA is monitoring and doing some evaluation, assessment, surveys in consultation with the police and other relevant stakeholders.
