The Land Transport Authority has issued a stern warning to taxi drivers today that they can lose their licence and their vehicles can be de-registered if they are caught operating illegally.
Concerns have been raised that many taxis from Suva Rural, Lami and Nausori are driving around in the Suva City almost all day picking up passengers.
As a result people who pay for the taxi bases are losing out.
LTA spokesperson Iliesa Sokia said these taxi drivers are chewing into other people’s business.
He has warned these drivers to operate from their base as LTA has every power to seize the vehicles.
Sokia said in order for LTA to take action they are now looking for valid and credible information about these taxis like their registration and time and date they were seen operating illegally.
