The Land Transport Authority is carrying out a 24/7 operation in Lami.
LTA says that they have a team with portable scales doing checks along the Queens Highway.
Fijivillage has witnessed that clinkers are now being delivered by trucks along the Queens Highway which may cause further damage to the Walu Bay and Tamavua‑i‑Wai Bridge.
LTA staff are also carrying snap checks at jetties.
It stresses that loading checks are being done and they also offload excess loads that are carried in the vehicles.
The Tamavua‑i-Wai bridge has a weight restriction of 32 tonnes and the company that commits or is caught carrying excess weight are given fine of $1,000 per ton in excess of legal limit.
