A live test of tsunami sirens in Laucala Bay and Lami Town will be conducted by the National Disaster Management Office between 10 and 10.30 this morning.
The tsunami sirens being tested are located in the University of the South Pacific’s Lower Campus in Laucala Bay and on Nasevou Street in Lami Town.
People are advised that the sirens will be switched on and audible for exercise purposes only and there will be no need for evacuation or alarm.
Permanent Secretary for Disaster Management, Meleti Bainimarama says the exercise is part of on‑going work to improve tsunami early warning systems and to increase knowledge and understanding of tsunami risks.
The National Disaster Awareness Week will also begin tomorrow with the theme Be Tsunami Ready.
