Outgoing Minister for Defence and National Security Inoke Kubuabola was pleased to have signed the long outstanding Shiprider Agreement this morning , just a few days before finishing his term in office.
The agreement was signed between Kubuabola and the Acting Ambassador of the United States to Fiji Michael Goldman.
During the signing Kubuabola says that the agreement will benefit local Navy officials and boarder official in how to investigate transnational crimes, drug trafficking and illegal unregulated and unreported fishing within Fiji’s Economic Exclusive Zone.
The US Acting Ambassador says that the agreement is not just a military agreement between two nations.
Goldman says that the United states is developing a special connection with Pacific Islands, connection in maritime surveillance saying that they are committed in helping the pacific and seeing the continuous development of the Oceana Maritime security initiative.
