Korean company, Grace Road Food plans to work with Rewa Rice Company to make Fiji self-sufficient in rice production.
Grace Road Food Company President Daniel Kim says Rewa Rice Company is a government enterprise and it depends on the government if their approach will be accepted.
Kim says Rewa Rice cannot control production and quality as they buy rice paddies from farmers whereas Grace Road Food produces their own raw material and is milling the paddies.
He says the company plans to approach the government with this message and hopes to get a favorable reply.
Meanwhile according to the Ministry of Agriculture, the country produced 6,282 tonnes of rice last year and over 30,000 tonnes was imported at the cost of about $40 million.
Kim said their aim is to develop 13,000 acres of land so they can produce up to 6,000 tonnes of rice.
