The President of Kiribati Anote Tong

The President of Kiribati, Anote Tong has commended the effort put in by Fiji to lead the fight in Climate Change in the Pacific.

While addressing delegates from 79 different states at the ACP-EU joint parliamentary assembly, Anote Tong thanked the government and people of Fiji for their most compassionate and challenging offer to accommodate the people of Kiribati when the need would arise.

Tong applauded Fiji for rising to the moral challenge.

He says although the people of Kiribati are not in a position to move in masses yet, they have taken Fiji’s offer into consideration.

Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama had previously highlighted that Fiji is prepared to give Kiribati new homes here if their islands are eventually submerged.

Kiribati has purchased a portion of land in Vanua Levu to ensure its long‑term food security.
