A number of key bilateral issues were discussed between Attorney General and Minister for Finance Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum, Minister for Industry, Trade and Tourism Faiyaz Siddiq Koya and Indian Minister for External Affairs Sushma Swaraj in Delhi.
Sayed-Khaiyum said technical assistance and cooperation, private sector participation in the area of trade, investment, health, agriculture, sugar, and air connectivity between the two countries were discussed.
He added that air connectivity is important for the growth of trade, investment and tourism and discussions also took place at Government level regarding air services agreement and possibility of code-sharing by Indian Airlines with Fiji Airways.
Sayed-Khaiyum said they also discussed training of medical staff to allow for specialized skills to be developed in Fiji.
They have also sought assistance from India to put in place implementation systems on the supply, procurement methodology and distribution of medicine including drugs under the free medicine scheme.
Sayed-Khaiyum said they will continue the dialogue to progress on a number of areas and both Fiji and India want the commitments made during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to be implemented soon.
