Opposition Leader Ro Teimumu Kepa says the 13 Fiji 7s players and 4 support staff who brought home Fiji’s first Olympic gold medal, should each be given $100,000 houses.
Ro Teimumu says this is only right as Iliesa Delana was rewarded with a $100,000 home after his gold medal win in the 2012 Paralympics.
While speaking in parliament, Ro Teimumu says that she hopes the new Health Minister Rosy Akbar and her Assistant Minister Alex O’Connor improve the delivery of public health services in the country.
She says an independent Education Commission should also be set up to reform Fiji’s education standards and we will then know whether text books are needed or tablets are the way to go.
Ro Teimumu says wider public consultations are also needed when new laws are proposed and she believes that there should be no fast tracking of bills unless it is a matter of life and death.
She also called for the establishment of an independent parliamentary counsel.
Meanwhile Ro Teimumu raised concern over the Prime Minister’s comments about NFP President Tupou Draunidalo.
Bainimarama had raised the question on why Draunidalo is creating a false impression by saying that the i-Taukei has been disadvantaged under the current government.
He says this insults the intelligence of the i-Taukei as the rights of the i-Taukei are well protected under the constitution.
