Leader of Opposition Ro Teimumu Kepa says she is disappointed as she claims that school students are being used to further the FijiFirst Government propaganda as the lead up to the elections in 2018.
Ro Teimumu says the FijiFirst Government put up a grand show at Albert Park on Wednesday by stacking up and making the numbers with school students for Yoga celebrations.
She says Yoga must be introduced as part of the staple school physical education program and not a one day show as it has been the case.
Ro Teimumu has also questioned whether parental consent was secured for these types of activities.
When contacted, Education Minister Dr. Mahendra Reddy stated that Wednesday was the International Day for Yoga and it is part of the Ministry’s calendar where schools are supposed to observe these days.
He says the Ministry of Education will also mark the day on a large scale and they will do the same for Early Childhood Education.
Reddy says they are looking at this kind of events from an educational point of view and it is unfortunate that Ro Teimumu Kepa cannot get out of her political thinking.
Reddy has also confirmed that parental consent was sought and the students’ were well looked after by the Ministry.
