It is comments like that of Jone Kata of SODELPA that sets us way back.

Those were the response of Miki Wali the Transgender activist of the Haus of Khameleon while speaking in a press conference for the Transgender Day of Remembrance this morning.

When asked, Wali says that the statement made by Jone Kata saying  to send the members of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer community to four isolated islands for extinction is discriminatory and Kata should be held accountable for it.

Wali adds that Kata’s statement is a harm to anyone that wants to practice his or her political rights.

The Haus of Khameleon is calling on SODELPA to take full responsibility for the comments made by Kata.

Meanwhile, the Transgender community is calling the formal justice system to pay full attention and ensure that there is a thorough investigation into the two recent murder cases of the late Iosefo Magnus and the 23yr‑old USP student who was found dead along the Suva foreshore on the 17th of May this year.

The Transgender community is today remembering transgender here in Fiji, across the Pacific and the world who have been killed due to anti-transgender hatred and prejudice.

Meanwhile, Transgender Activist Lyla Lorpes says that members of the Transgender community have left their homes and families because they feel unwelcome.

He says that this is one of the main reasons they prefer to live amongst their own members.
