A Kadavu man has been jailed for 4 years 9 months after being convicted for the unlawful cultivation of illicit drugs by Justice Vinsent Perera this afternoon.
Joeli Waqavanua had pleaded guilty to planting 104 plants of marijuana weighing 16kg in October last year.
In his sentence, Justice Perera said Waqavanua had admitted that he was solely responsible and did it for financial gain.
Justice Perera noted in his sentence that the man had five children, pleaded guilty early and was a first offender.
He also said the man was remorseful.
A non parole period of 3 years 5 months has been set.
Justice Perera has also ordered that the marijuana plants used as evidence in the case be destroyed.
