A man charged with the defilement of his 15-year-old cousin was produced in the Suva Magistrates Court today.
The 22-year-old farmer of Kadavu is alleged to have had carnal knowledge of his cousin between December 2017 to January 2018 in Kadavu.
The man and the victim grew up together in the same village.
It was told in court that the matter came to light when the victim had gone to the hospital to make a booking in the Ante Natal Care Unit and was discovered to be 15 years old and one month pregnant.
The matter was then reported to police.
Magistrate Deepika Prakash has granted the man bail to the sum of $1000.
The case has been adjourned to the 12th of next month.
