High Court Judge Justice Daniel Goundar will deliver his judgement on the 31st of this month on the review application filed by a former teacher who had pleaded guilty to assaulting one of her students last year.
Sheenal Lal through her counsel, Aman Datt, has claimed that she was told by the Magistrate to plead guilty and that there would be no consequences.
Lal had then pleaded guilty to her charge.
It was highlighted in court today that Lal’s plea in the Magistrates Court was taken in the absence of her counsel.
At that time, Lal was being represented by Legal Aid.
The victim at the time of the offence was 6-years-old.
It was alleged that Lal hit the victim on her back and she fell causing her to injure herself after hitting a pen.
