Judiciary swears in new resident Magistrate and an Acting Master of the High Court

Fiji’s judiciary has welcomed more additions to its ranks following the swearing in of Puisne Judge, new resident Magistrate and an Acting Master of the High Court.

Judge Chamath Morais, Lasitha Chaminda and Vandhana Lal join the Judiciary in Fiji after their appointment was formalised by the Head of State before the Chief Justice Anthony Gates and Chief Registrar Yohan Liyanage and Chief Magistrate Usaia Ratuvili.

Morais completed his Masters of Law in Commercial Law from the University of Northumbria in the United Kingdom in 2005 and was serving High Court Judge in the High Court of Chilaw, Sri Lanka in 2017.

Lasitha Chaminda studied law at the Sri Lanka Law College in Colombo from 2003 to 2005 where he attained a qualification as an Attorney at Law of the Supreme Court of Sri Lanka.

Lal served as a resident magistrate in Fiji, her work includes criminal, civil and family law matters.

Prior to her new appointment as Acting Masters of the High Court, Lal also served a Deputy Registrar in the family court.

Lal had completed her Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Pune in 2006 and Bachelor of Law from USP in 1998.
