The public of Fiji is sick and tired of robberies.
This comment was made by Suva High Court Judge Justice Salesi Temo today after convicting 28‑year‑old Kaminieli Turagaloaloa and 19‑year‑old Sela Rayawa.
The two men took assorted items amounting to $16,519 from a service station in Laucala Beach on 6th January last year.
They also robbed a customer who was inside the service station and took a mobile phone, a radio, and a taxi meter all to the total value of $3,303.
Justice Temo said in the past when they sentenced robbers to 7 years they found out that it did not work so they increased it to 10 years but that still did not work as robberies would still happen in Suva left, right and centre.
He said when they changed it and started sentencing robbers to 16 and 20 years then it worked.
Justice Temo said they have to be tough because people get violated and attacked through robberies.
Justice Temo will sentence the two men on Friday.
