Suva High Court Judge Justice Priyantha Fernando today raised serious concerns during a case when remand prisoners walked in late in the courtroom and were not escorted by Police officers.
He asked the Police escort officer on why the remand prisoners were late to arrive for their respective cases.
The Police escort officer said that there was only one vehicle transporting the remand prisoners.
Justice Fernando told the Police escort officer that they should have brought the remand prisoners earlier if they knew there was only one vehicle.
The court clerk then informed the judge that the remand prisoner was in the cell block before the case started.
Justice Fernando raised concern and asked why the remand prisoner was not brought to the courtroom from the cell block.
The Police escort officer then told Justice Fernando that there was a shortage of Police escort officers.
