It was a touching moment at the Sigatoka Sand Dunes yesterday morning when the Vodafone Fiji 7s team bus had to stop as someone was waiting to meet Jasa Veremalua.
26-year-old Hashneel Sharma and his mother of Kulukulu, Sigatoka came to witness the Fiji 7s team training, particularly their hero, Jasa Veremalua.
Sharma and Veremalua are best friends as they started their primary school studies at Sigatoka Methodist School.
Little did Sharma know back then that one day he will be witnessing his best mate rubbing shoulders with some of the best in the world.
We saw Sharma following Veremalua nearly everywhere at the sand dunes yesterday and he took a number of photos and videos as Veremalua was training with his team mates.
Hashneel Sharma was even seen cheering for Veremalua when he was competing with other players.
But, the moment that touched everyone’s heart was when Sharma signaled to Veremalua that his mother is on the other side of the bus and wanted to catch a glimpse of him.
This is when the Fiji 7s team had wrapped up its training and was heading back.
Veremalua told the driver to stop the bus as soon as he saw Sharma’s mother waving.
He quickly got off the bus and gave a big hug to his best friend’s mother who he used to see nearly every day in his school days.
Both talked to each other for a while as the bus waited and Sharma’s mother finally gave Veremalua a goodbye kiss and gave him her best wishes.
Hashneel Sharma says Veremalua has not changed although he has become a big star.
He thinks Jasa Veremalua will be picked in the Vodafone Fiji 7s team as he is very fit.
