It is out with the wooden ballot boxes and in with the plastic translucent boxes for the 2014 general elections.
The Japanese government today announced the full funding of $82,000 for the ballot boxes to be used by the Elections Office.
Supervisor of Elections Mohammed Saneem said the 400 of the 45 litres ballot boxes will be provided for small polling stations with 30 to 150 voters while 2,100 of the 86 litres ballot boxes will be provided to polling stations that have up to 500 voters.
Saneem said these ballot boxes are the best in the world.
He also said the wooden ballot boxes had a number of problems in the past.
All the ballot boxes will be in the country by the 15th of August and will then be allocated to the polling stations.
