It was a proud moment for 258 students of Sigatoka Valley High School as a newly constructed classroom block and few other amenities were officially opened yesterday.
The Embassy of Japan through the Japan’s Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects Programme spent a little over $190,000 and assisted Sigatoka Valley High School with the construction of a three classroom block with an inbuilt office and a library, furniture, ablution block and a hand wash facility.
Ambassador of Japan Takuji Hanatani reminded the community, teachers and students that the new facilities are now in place but they are not the most important factor in the delivery of quality education.
He said these facilities are only the physical component and excellence in education can only be realized through the commitment of teachers, diligent students and support from their families as well as the community.
Minister for Education Dr Mahendra Reddy expressed his appreciation to the Japanese government for their continued assistance towards the development of education in Fiji.
