Four schools in the country today received around $3.1 million from the Government of Japan under Fiji’s Adopt A School program at the Suvavou house.
The four schools include Koronubu Sangam School, Toko Primary School, Balevuto Public School and Navatusila District School.
Speaking at the Grant contract signing, Japanese Ambassador Takuji Hanatani says Koronubu Sangam School will be given $238,866, Toko Primary School will receive $840,520 while Navatusila District School will receive $965,559.
Hanatani says Balevuto Public School will receive around $1.1 million.
He says the Adopt A School Programme is crucial to Fiji’s recovery and it is important that we rebuild schools not only to provide a conducive learning environment but also to such standards that can withstand natural disasters.
Meanwhile, speaking to Fijivillage Balevuto Public School Head Teacher Neel Sanjay Prasad says the $1.1 million assistance has come at the right time as the school was in a very bad condition after TC Winston.
Prasad says this grant will be used to construct a new classroom block which will give the school a whole new look.
