The Government of Japan has donated a new garbage compactor truck valued at $179,043 to the Nadi Town Council.
Minister for Local Government Parveen Kumar acknowledged the Government of Japan for the donation which had come under the Japan's Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Project.
Bala says the economic development of Nadi including the upgrade of the Nadi International Airport, the construction of the four lane road and extension to the Nadi Municipal Market has increased the workload on the management of garbage and other municipal waste management systems.
The Chargé d’Affaires from the Japanese Embassy Tsuguyoshi Hada highlighted that Japan has been providing assistance to communities in Fiji through 341 GGP projects with the total value exceeding US$19 million since 1990.
Meanwhile, the new Chief Executive Officer for Nadi Town Council Peter Dinning was welcomed by the Minister yesterday.
