The government of Japan has given a grant of $5.8 million to Fiji under the Japan’s Grant Aid Programme for the rehabilitation work after Tropical Cyclone Winston.
Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama and Japanese Ambassador to Fiji, Takuji Hanatani formalized Japan’s assistance to Fiji at an exchange of notes signing ceremony today.
The grant is under the Economic and Social Development Programme.
This grant will allow the government to identify items that are critical to restoration and rehabilitation needs such as machinery, construction materials or consumables essential for restoring normality into the lives of affected Fijians.
The Japan International Cooperation Systems will be contracted under this grant aid as Fiji’s procurement consultant.
The items that will be procured under this grant aid will be identified by the Fijian government while the procurement process will be facilitated by the Japan International Cooperation Systems.
The Japanese government had earlier assisted Fiji with emergency relief items worth over $350,000.
