‘The youth today need to know that it is wrong when their parents shave off their daughters’ hair because she has had pre-marital sex.’
This was highlighted by the Minister for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation Mereseini Vuniwaqa while opening the Provincial Youth Administrators Workshop on Gender Based Violence.
Vuniwaqa told the participating Youth Administrators from the different districts that youths today need to know that what they may have been taught by their parents and grandparents through words or actions which belittle women and girls’ is wrong.
She says that they need to know that it is morally and legally wrong when men punch their sisters because they had gone out clubbing.
The Minister says that this type of behavior is not rooted in love.
Vuniwaqa says that they have the power to shape the next step in the development of our nation.
