A number of issues have been raised in relation to children and teenagers that live at various residential homes.
The issues include sexually abused children absconding from residential homes, negative attitude of some children and enrolling girls into secondary schools without proper documentation.
These issues were raised by the managers of various residential homes during a Residential Forum for Child Services Unit today.
A representative of Treasure House Children’s Home said that sexually abused children started absconding recently when some other children were brought over to the home.
She said that they have noticed that the children who have been abused are influencing other young children.
She said they have separated children to counter this problem.
The Treasure House Children’s Home currently accommodates 25 children.
Meanwhile, Dilkusha Girl’s Home Deaconess, Leba Laveti has raised concern on the negative attitude of some children living at the home.
The youngest child living at the home is a two month old baby and the oldest is a 21-year-old.
There are 156 children living in 11 residential homes around the country.
A number of these children are victims of sexual abuse and neglect.
