LTA has been asked by the Ministry of Transport to carry out a survey in Labasa upon receiving complaints regarding bus services and if reports state what people are saying is true then all those bus routes will go on tender.
While speaking during the budget debate, Parveen Bala stated that when he was in Labasa, issues regarding bus services were raised in the talanoa sessions.
Bala says the issue about the Namoli land in Lautoka which was raised by SODELPA MP, Viliame Gavoka is not true as the land within the city where Namoli is situated is occupied by the villagers themselves and the council is providing them with free garbage collection, street lights and other services and they have also been exempted from paying city rates.
Bala further states that the issuance of the taxi permits will be based on zoning and all those that paid before and during the freeze with evidence, have been issued with taxi permits.
He says the failure of the 1993 budget and the repeated failures of the budget during Rabuka’s leadership left behind only a poor legacy for all Fijians.
Bala adds that there was neglect of capital investment in areas such as roads, jettys, airports, electricity, water, telecommunications, housing and the environment which is the legacy that previous governments left behind since independence till 2006.
Bala says as at today, the Ministry of Lands in partnership with TLTB and land owners have processed 32 development leases for the upgrading of the informal settlements.
He adds that about 15,350 Fijians will benefit from this project and a total of around $1.5M has been paid to TLTB to be paid to the members of the land owning units and this is apart from the $685,000 that they have paid for the new town development.
