It was a historic and proud moment in Vatukarasa village in Nadroga today where for the first time an Islamic celebration was held in the main grounds of an itaukei village.
The two communities have been living in this village for more than 100 years.
While officiating at the Eid Celebration in Vatukarasa today, Minister for Agriculture Inia Seruiratu says Fiji is fortunate to have communities such as Vatukarasa who have not only embraced other races but most importantly shared their resources with others so they can dwell together in unity despite their diversity.
Minister for Health Rosy Akbar was also part of the celebrations.
Akbar says Vatukarasa is what the Fijian government is all about which is promoting peace, multi-culturalism and peaceful co-existence between all the citizens.
