Acting Deputy Commissioner of Police Itendra Nair says it was discovered that there was irregular banking and some receipts were not accounted for at Taveuni Police Station.
He revealed this while making submissions on the Fiji Police Force 2016 Auditor General Report before the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Public Accounts today.
Nair says this was discovered during the verification of bank lodgements.
Nair says an investigation has been carried out by the Police Internal Affairs Department and the case has been handed over to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions for further directive.
Meanwhile, Nair says Assistant Accounts Officers are now based at various Divisional Police Commanders offices and they are instructed to conduct regular inspections on their Revenue Collectors and provide training.
He says this will enable them to detect any late bank lodgements or anomalies in the revenue collection and banking.
