Investigation continues into fake Facebook accounts of RBF Governor

Police and Financial Intelligence Unit investigations into the creation of several fake Facebook profiles of Governor of the RBF Barry Whiteside are still open.

In August, the Financial Intelligence Unit found out that cybercriminals had created several fake Facebook profiles of the RBF Governor and used it to provide fake RBF approvals for victims to remit funds to secure proceeds of fake lotteries, investments and loans.

FIU Director Razim Buksh says there have been no similar cases since the fake Facebook profiles of the RBF Governor were taken down.

There have also been a number of incidents where scam emails have surfaced claiming to be from Governor Whiteside with fake messages and documents.
