Students of Ratu Meli Memorial School and Yasawa North High School can now look forward to an improved and modern education after the installation of solar power system in their school.
These children have in the past struggled with no electricity supply.
Australian NGO ‘Its Time Foundation’ Founder Rob Edwards says the project costs up to more than $70,000 and the success means the start of computer education at the school with the money saved on the generator fuel creating decades of cash flow to buy computers.
The project included the complete rewiring in both schools and all 9 teachers quarters and also the installation of energy efficient LED lighting.
Since 2009, the organisation has installed solar power systems supplying electricity to 20 schools around the country.
They also installed solar power systems at Navutua Infant and Primary school as well as two teachers’ quarters.
