The 28‑year‑old inmate who was allegedly raped in prison in 2012 disputed his police statement in the Suva High Court today.
While taking the stand in court today, the inmate said that he did not lie in his police statement although he had told the court a different version of the events that occurred on November 2nd, 2012.
He told the court yesterday that three people held him outside the washroom at the Suva Corrections Centre and punched him.
Today, the inmate read out his police statement which stated that he was not held outside the bathroom but was instead held inside his room and then dragged to the bathroom.
He had also told the court that the alleged incident occurred on a bed in the dormitory.
This was also disputed when the inmate read his police statement today.
But, as it was read in court, the police statement said that the inmate was pushed to the floor and allegedly raped by the three accused.
It is alleged that the incident happened at about 6pm.
The court was told that none of the Corrections officers were present when the alleged incident took place.
The 28‑year‑old inmate was allegedly raped by inmates Jonacani Ciritabua, Tevita Qaqanivalu, and Sefton Tupou.
They are serving prisoners.
The trial continues in the Suva High Court.
