The Nadi Weather Office is calling on people to take necessary precautions as many parts of Fiji are expected to feel the indirect effects of a tropical cyclone which is expected to pass to the far west of Fiji later this week.
The tropical disturbance was located 1,030 kilometres West North West of Rotuma at 9am today.
It is near Tuvalu and the system is moving south westwards.
Weather Office Director Ravind Kumar says the weather system is anticipated to track southwards and gradually intensify over the next 12 to 24 hours.
Expect rain and thunderstorms in many parts of Fiji from tomorrow.
Kumar says at this stage, the system does not post a direct threat to Fiji but associated rain and strong gusty winds is expected from Thursday.
He says people should remain prepared at all times and listen to the radio weather updates.
Continuous heavy rain can also result in flash flooding.
