The Indian Navy’s Offshore Patrol Vessel Sumitra will arrive in Suva on a friendly goodwill visit tomorrow.
India’s High Commissioner to Fiji Vishvas Sapkal says the Indian Naval Ship Sumitra’s visit is aimed at strengthening bilateral ties and enhancing maritime security cooperation between the two countries.
Sapkal says this includes official calls and interaction with dignitaries of the Fijian government and the Fijian Navy.
He says they will be handing over five tonnes of seedlings from the Indian Government to Fiji’s Ministry of Agriculture.
A Medical camp will be organised by Indian and Fijian doctors for general health checkups at Ratu Sukuna Park this Thursday and Friday from 9am to 4pm.
There will also be an open day for onboard visits for local people from 10am to 4pm, a band display and entertainment by the Indian Naval Band along with RFMF band at Ratu Sukuna Park as well as a volleyball match between Sumitra crew and RFMF team.
The Indian Naval Ship Sumitra is of indigenous design and since its commissioning in 2014, the ship has been deployed for multiple operational tasks.
The INS Sumitra is expected to reach Fiji tomorrow.
