India celebrates its 72nd year of independence today.
After a long drawn struggle on August 15th 1947, India finally managed to free itself from the British rule and the day serves as a reminder of the struggle for independence and the many lives that were sacrificed in pursuit of it.
According to various media, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to announce new welfare schemes for almost 320 million people across India which may include free accident cover of up to $100,000.
Prime Minister Modi will deliver his Independence Day speech from the Red Fort in New Delhi today.
