The improvement in infrastructure and dredging of the waterways in the Government Shipping Service at Walu Bay is currently underway.
Permanent Secretary for Transport Francis Kean says this is necessary to improve the working environment and provide better service to all Fijians.
Kean says the first phase has been completed.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama has earlier said that the government has earmarked $1.35 million to rehabilitate the jetty and $4.2 million for a new office building which is already underway.
Bainimarama said that they will also include a workshop for engineers and technical staff and a cargo warehouse and waiting areas for passengers.
