14 Provincial Conservation Officers with ITaukei Affairs Board are currently undergoing a training to become Litter Prevention Officers.
While speaking at the Conservation Officer Bi Annual Training Workshop 2019, Itaukei Affairs Board Deputy CEO, Josefa Toganivalu has highlighted that the I‑ Taukei Affairs Board in coordination with Ministry of Waterways and Environment recognizes that litter can cause a whole range of problems for everyone in our communities.
Toganivalu adds that in their 5 years Strategic Plan of 2018 ‑ 2022, the Itaukei Affairs Board has committed to transform iTaukei families though holistic approaches as it focuses on improving families', social, economic and environment well‑being.
He says that the board through its Conservation and Climate Change Platform has considered waste and its management to be a priority focus area.
Toganivalu says that he hopes that the weeklong training would help the current Provincial Conservation Officers in taking a step forward in cleaning up Fiji's Environment and ensuring proper management of our natural resources.
He also stressed that now is the time that people need to take collective action to safeguard our natural resources from the impacts of improper waste management.
