The 25-year-old woman who is alleged to have attempted to kill her 4-year-old son in Nakasi last year has told the Suva High Court that she never had the intention to kill her son.
Shahista Devi took the stand today after High Court Judge Justice Riyaz Hamza ruled that Devi has a case to answer for the charge of attempted murder while he has ruled that there is no case to answer for the count of criminal intimidation.
Devi told the court that she only wanted to scare her mother-in-law as she was not leaving her son alone.
She says she had torn a piece of bed sheet and tied it to the rafter.
The woman says she did all this to just scare her mother-in-law who always used to start arguments in the house.
Devi says her mother-in-law used to spoil her son and she would not allow him to go with his parents if they were visiting their relatives.
However, Devi told the court that when her son used to get sick, her mother-in-law would bring the 4-year-old to her and say that she can’t look after him as she has body aches.
The trial continues this afternoon.
