The Minister for Employment, Jone Usamate says human trafficking is an abomination and the government is deeply concerned about anything illegal that is being done to its citizens.
Usamate says the ministry will work with police and others on such matters to see that these issues are addressed.
He highlighted this when questioned by Fijivillage on what the Ministry doing in terms of monitoring agencies that send people overseas for work.
This comes after a case where a 31-year-old woman of Nasole, Nasinu and her sister are alleged to have facilitated the travel of 17 Fijian citizens who were exploited through slavery and became victims of human trafficking in Auckland, New Zealand in 2014.
We had also asked if there are laws governing agencies which send people overseas for work.
Usamate says there is a legislation on such matters.
He says some agencies paint a rosy picture and people take up the work opportunity but later on they regret it.
Usamate says the Ministry is there to help and protect workers and people should check with the Ministry of Employment before they take up jobs overseas.
