Huge fire rips through block of flats in New York

A massive blaze has broken out at a six‑storey apartment building in the Hamilton Heights area of New York.

The blaze broke out earlier this morning on the top floor of a building located at 144th Street and Broadway.

Dramatic footage shows large plumes of smoke coming from the building as well as the entire roof on fire.

At least 100 firefighters are at the scene trying to put out the blaze. Two have reportedly suffered non‑life‑threatening injuries.

The fire is believed to have spread to four alarms at the six‑storey building. No injuries have been reported as of yet and it is unclear how many people were inside the building when the blaze started.

An estimated 40 families live in the building, which also has retail stores on the first floor and apartments on floors two to six. Roads around the area remain closed to traffic.
