More than 10 girls who are victims of forced sex are currently staying at the Homes of Hope with their babies.
The Project Leader of the Homes of the Hope, Sosaia Tapueluelu said these girls are victims of rape and incest.
He said they are running some rehabilitation programs for these girls to help them support themselves and their babies.
Meanwhile, the Social Welfare Department is currently running programs with the Homes of the Hope in the Southern and Eastern division to create awareness on child abuse and neglect.
So far the awareness campaigns have been held in Raiwaqa, Vatuwaqa, Lami and Samabula while another campaign has been organised for Wailoku.
Out of the 169 child related cases recorded from January to July, this year, child neglect tops the list which stands at 53.
According to the Social Welfare Department, other cases where children are victims include 38 cases of sexual abuse, 32 cases of teenage pregnancies, 21 cases of physical abuse, 4 cases of victim of parental conflict and 2 cases of attempted suicide.
Some types of child neglect are where the children are left alone and parents have gone to a function or they are left under the supervision of another family member.
