A 19-year-old unemployed man of Nanuku Settlement in Vatuwaqa who is charged with allegedly raping a 23-year-old tertiary student seven times in December last year, appeared in the Suva Magistrates Court today.
Isoa Raiqima is charged with seven counts of rape, one count of assault with intent to rape and one count of robbery.
The alleged incident occurred at Holland Street in Suva in December last year.
Police Prosecutor Priti Prasad advised Magistrate Priyantha Liyanage that it is an indictable offence and requested the court to transfer the matter to the High Court.
Raiqima then told the court through his lawyer that he was beaten up by Police Officers at the Central Police Station.
Prasad told court that they have a medical report of Raiqima however, Magistrate Liyanage has ordered that Raiqima be taken to a doctor for a fresh medical report.
Raiqima has been remanded in custody and the matter has been transferred to the High Court which will be called next Friday.
Meanwhile, Raiqima is also facing charges of burglary and theft in a separate case.
He allegedly broke into a house in Nabua in December last year and stole $7,357 worth of assorted items.
