The Ministry of Social Welfare and Poverty Alleviation has confirmed that the highest number of teenage pregnancies recorded under the National Child Welfare Register is between the ages of 11 and 18.
According to the statistics provided by the Ministry, there were 21 cases of teenage pregnancies between the ages of 16 and 18 while eight cases were between the ages 11 and 15 for the first six months of this year.
The Ministry has recorded 64 cases of teenage pregnancies in total.
Minister, Dr. Jiko Luveni said while the Ministry is working with its stakeholders to raise awareness, families have also been urged to play their role in addressing the issue of teenage pregnancies.
