Students between the ages of 8 and 25 years around the Lami areas now have access to the first ever high tech learning centre.
Speaking at the opening of the Lami Tech Studio at Johnny Singh Park in Nasevou Street, Lami, Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama said the program is designed to provide students with the resources they need to access the latest technology.
Bainimarama said Fiji has a shortage of highly trained experts and the country relies on those from overseas.
13-year-old Peni Ravitu of Marist Covenant School in Lami who was one of the four students who went to New Zealand last year said he has learnt a lot and he wants to become a high tech youth mentor.
High Tech Youth CEO, Mike Usman said this is an after school program from 2pm to 6pm.
He said the centre is to assist youth’s in looking at new opportunities and offering support with their creative projects.
About 200 students have enrolled with the Lami Tech Studio.
The $1.3 million project is funded by the NZAID and in partnership with New Zealand and Hawaii based High Tech Youth Network who provided an additional $330,000 and the Lami Town Council who provided the land.
